Microsoft is going to provide Windows 10 as a free upgrade to those who own a genuine copy of Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 provided that these users upgrade to the new software within a year start July 29th, 2015. Initially there was some confusion regarding Microsoft even offering free upgrades to pirates though that has now been cleared up, but the company has come up with a new way through which one can get Windows 10 for free.
The latest Windows 10 preview build 10130 has been released and the company is saying that anyone who installs and tests this build will receive the final version of Windows 10 for free.
Those who want to take part in this will require a Microsoft Account that’s registered for the Windows Insider program as well as a PC on which they can do a fresh install of Windows 10 preview build 10130.
Once they have installed the preview build they can continue using it and when Windows 10 is finally released to the public on July 29th they’ll receive a software update which will automatically upgrade the preview build to a genuine copy of Windows 10.
This method has been confirmed by Microsoft’s Gabe Aul, it’s part of a change that the company is making to the way it tests Windows 10. It’s a great way to people who are not running Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 to get in line to receive a free upgrade to Windows 10.
