This reportedly comes from Redditor megamanultra who first broke the news on the website. According to him when he spoke to the GameStop regional manager, “He mentioned that he has gotten word that they will no longer take reservations/preorders for future Amiibo. All future Amiibo will reportedly be like the 29th, a sign in the window noting what they have, and no presales. Limits will be one of each figure per person.”
He also goes on to claim that the manager told him that to help cut down on customers creating false accounts to make multiple purchases, they have updated their systems which will supposedly be able to track multiple accounts that use the same address. That being said this information should be taken with a grain of salt for now.
GameStop has yet to officially confirm if what megamanultra has said is true, but like we said given the popularity of these figurines (which could potentially net Nintendo as much as $1 billion in sales), we wouldn’t be surprised if retailers tried to cut back on orders so as to better manage customer expectations.
