DxO ONE Is A Camera Attachment For Your Smartphone

Yesterday we reported that thanks to a couple of leaked photos, images of the DxO ONE camera were revealed. Well if you wanted to learn more about the camera, wonder no more as DxO has officially taken the wraps off. The company known more for their software and their testing of cameras has launched an interesting camera of their own.

Following in the veins of the Sony QX-series and Olympus Air-series, the DxO ONE is a camera attachment for smartphones. It is a camera by itself but when paired with smartphones, it can use the smartphone’s display as a much larger viewfinder than other cameras, and will also be able to transfer photos and videos, plus it will bring presumably better quality photos to smartphones.

Under the hood, the DxO ONE sports an impressive 1-inch CMOS BSI sensor which is also the same sensor used in the Nikon 1, so safe to say that there is a certain level of quality to them. The lens is a 32mm equivalent which would make it great for street photography and its aperture of f/1.8 should allow for some pretty creamy bokeh.

The accompanying app will give users the control they need over the camera, such as changing its modes, adjusting its aperture, shutter speed, ISO, and more. According to the company, they ran their own tests on the sensor and claimed that the produced photos that were on par with full frame DSLRs, but this will really be up to you to decide.

At the moment the camera appears to be compatible with only iOS device as it relies on the Lightning connector, and no word if a micro USB version will be made in the future. The DxO ONE is priced at $599 and can be pre-ordered from its website where it is expected to begin shipping in September.
