Drone Racing Could Be The New Craze
Drones are not only the
domain of the military, as it has started to catch on with the mainstream people as well. The thing about drones is, there is still much work that needs to be done in terms of regulating them – privacy issues and all. Well,
quadcopters are a kind of drone that has caught on with the masses, and how about checking out the world of underground quadcopter racing? It might not have the glam and babes that a drift event has, made popular by the Fast and Furious franchise, but the action is good enough in the video above for you to hold on to the edge of the seat – just don’t spill any of the popcorn!
What you see is actually what the pilots flying those drones see, and it is known as first-person-view (FVP) racing. Special goggles will be worn by the involved pilots, where it will stream a live feed from miniscule cameras that are installed on the drones. Reaction time must be fast, as one “moves around” at 60 miles-per-hour. Perhaps the next Jedi can be weeded out from a pool of drone pilots?
Drone hobbyist Darren French shared, “It’s like playing a video game. It’s fast. The more you do it the more you want to fly. It’s definitely becoming a sport as we start to race more, [and in more places]. Like any sport, it evolves, so I’m looking forward to it becoming more professional.”
