If a report published by the Wall Street Journal is to be believed, then T-Mobile US and Dish Network are entering into merger talks. This will be the second time when T-Mobile is trying to collaborate with another big company.
The report states that the talks have already been initiated between the two companies. As touted by the report, if the merger turns out to be on solid grounds then we can see Dish Network’s CEO, Charlie Ergen coming up to be the new chairman of the combined company, however the title of a chairman will also be shared by the T-Mobile CEO John Legere.
The merger talk does not really comes as a surprise as T-Mobile has been often associated with merger talks. The company was earlier under limelight in the year 2011, for an attempted acquisition by AT&T, later in the year 2014, Sprint was also in talks with the T-Mobile but reached no decision, and then a french bound telecom Iliad tried to acquire T-Mobile but couldn’t succeed.
It is still unknown that if the merger will be done via paying the complete purchase price or in parts of stock and cash. Many reports are of view that the talks are still in early stages so the payment plan might not have been confirmed yet.
Dish network has been accumulating wireless spectrum via auctions and spectrum sales – the company event went an extra mile to fetch the FCC approval to build a network, however the company does not have a wireless network to put the spectrum to use. In the past, Dish network also tried to bid on Sprint network before SoftBank acquiring the company.
