Apple wants its software experience to have a permanent place in your car, the car appears to be the next battleground for giants like Apple and Google who have already taken over your smartphones, tablets and even watches. Both have inked deal with car manufacturers that puts their systems on new vehicles that come straight off the production line. Earlier this year Chevrolet confirmed that it would install CarPlay in newly produced vehicles and now the first CarPlay-enabled cars are hitting the streets.
The first newly produced Chevrolet car that comes with CarPlay installed straight off the production line is the Corvette Z06 and it’s now being sent out to customers and dealerships.
Apple isn’t just limiting itself to car manufacturers since there are hundreds of millions of cars out on the roads that can also be hooked up to CarPlay. This is why the company has partnered with companies like Pioneer to create aftermarket solutions for existing vehicles.
There aren’t that many newly produced cars that come with either CarPlay or Android Auto off the production line, Ferrari FF is the only other confirmed vehicle for Apple’s platform.
It’s going to be a slow road to progress for systems like CarPlay and Android Auto but the companies behind them are moving full steam ahead to ensure that they capture the biggest piece of the pie.
