There have been reports recently that BlackBerry might be considering adopting the Android OS for its next smartphone however this has not yet been confirmed by the Canadian manufacturer. If it does decide to do this it would be the first time that BlackBerry would make a handset that wouldn’t be running software that was also made by it. A picture has appeared online today which allegedly shows the BlackBerry Passport running Lollipop.
The BlackBerry Passport was last year’s flagship device from the company, it was released in November 2014 and like all devices before it, it runs on BlackBerry’s own software.
For a while now BB devices have been capable of running Android applications and with its most recent devices the company even signed a deal with Amazon to pre-install its Appstore so that users could easily browse and install Android apps on their devices.
The picture shows a BlackBerry Passport allegedly running Lollipop, and while the possibily can’t be rubbished, it goes without saying that orchestrated a picture like this doesn’t require much effort so for all we know this could be an elaborate fake.
There has been no comment from BlackBerry yet on this matter, and it has also decided to stay mum on the possibility of adopting Android as the operating system for its upcoming smartphones.
