Fancy being a customer of a bank that does not have any kind of local branches or ATMs that you can withdraw money from? That certainly does not sound like a bank, and it is more like a mechanic who does not have a physical workshop for you to drive your vehicle up to when it comes to servicing and repairs. I suppose that will never happen for car workshops, but a branch-less and ATM-less bank is now a reality as Atom Bank has just picked up a UK banking license that will see those two items missing from their repertoire.
Atom has laid claim that it will be “free of the existing banks’ branch and legacy costs” through the delivery of its banking services via nothing else but an app. According to Atom Bank :-
Atom’s app aims to set new standards for the banking sector and will bring pioneering technology to Europe for the first time. Atom will be leading the way in delivering the ultimate easy and convenient banking experience.
It adds that it’s working on various features for the app, including biometric security support, and the ability to open a new account on your mobile device. Interested customers can already pre-register via Atom’s site.
Atom’s customers will “have access to the UK and international ATM network and the ability to pay in cash and cheques when needed.” Pretty interesting, but dealing with the human factor over a counter can be quite therapeutic at times rather than faced with a cold machine.
