A few days back Oculus took to the stage at an event to unveil the consumer version of its Rift virtual reality headset, and to talk about when we can finally expect it to hit the market. This is undoubtedly one of the much awaited VR headsets that’s been making a lot of news over the past year, unfortunately though if you wish to use it with a Mac machine you are out of luck. Oculus is not going to support Mac until Apple significantly improves its graphics game.
In an interview with IGN on the sidelines of the E3 2015 gaming convention, Oculus CEO Palmer Luckey said provided that there are countless Mac users out there who would want to use the Rift, the current GPUs supplied by Apple in Macs are not “even close to what we’re pushing for our recommended spec.”
Luckey added that the Rift is not going to work “on any Macbook that exists or is known to exist in the near future,” also saying that he doesn’t expect that Apple will start prioritizing graphics performance in the near future.
Oculus is not completely opposed to the idea of supporting Mac, it has been made clear that when graphics performance on the Mac is up to the mark that Oculus is pushing for, VR support for Macs will most certainly be on the table.
