The new deal will see the exclusivity brought forward an additional year where it will expire on the 5th of February 2016. This is actually not the first time that Apple has extended the deal and it is actually the third. In fact just last year Apple extended the deal to the 5th of February 2015, but it looks like they want to extend it an extra year.
Like we said on the surface, there does not appear to be any indication that Apple is using Liquidmetal in the design of its products. However it is possible that Apple’s interest in the material could be used internally to design certain hardware components of their mobile devices or even their computers, but since Apple has never advertised that fact we guess it’s really anyone’s guess.
It is possible that Apple might still be experimenting with the material and the exclusivity will ensure that their competitors will not be able to get their hands on it for now and beat them to the punch. In any case we guess we’ll just have to wait and see if Apple will eventually make a big deal out of it.
