While third-party developers appear to be avoiding developing and releasing games on the Nintendo Wii U, Nintendo for the most part has managed to survive by relying on first-party games like that of Mario Kart 8 which recently crossed the 5 million mark, Super Smash Bros., and more. We can only imagine what sales might be like when The Legend of Zelda is released, but the question is will it even be released at all?
Last year Nintendo announced that they will be bringing The Legend of Zelda to the Wii U and that it would be released this year. Later it was revealed that the game might miss its 2015 release and now to make things worse, the game does not even a rough release timeframe anymore. It has been spotted on Nintendo’s website (via MCV) that it now states “TBD” as its release date.
What this means is that the release date is pretty much up in the air and for all we know, it might not even be released in 2016. In fact some have speculated that with the announcement of the Nintendo NX which will be Nintendo’s next console that the launch of Zelda for the Wii U has been cancelled.
The speculation is that Nintendo plans to rework the game and have it be ready as the launch title of their next-gen console, which we guess would make sense but at the same time would undoubtedly bum many Wii U gamers out in the process. However this is just speculation for now and there is no confirmation of that actually happening, but for Zelda fans rest assured that we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for more info regarding its release.
