While the Xbox One’s controller is a pretty decent controller, gamers who want to play using headphones might find it a bit limiting. This is because unlike the PlayStation 4’s DualShock 4 controllers which uses a standard headphone jack, the Xbox One has a proprietary port which means that either gamers have to buy an adapter, or use Xbox One supported headphones.
Like we said it does feel a bit limiting, but the good news is that all of that will soon change. This is according to a recent sighting on the Xbox support website which has revealed that Microsoft will be introducing an updated Xbox One controller in the near future which will feature the standard 3.5mm headphone jack.
What this means is that if you were to purchase this updated Xbox One controller, you will be able to use just about any pair of headphones you want with the controller. For gamers who have already bought the controller and the adapter, we guess this doesn’t really change anything but basically it could have saved you $25 on the adapter.
So far based on the diagram, the design of the controller will remain exactly the same as the current version, save for its headphone jack. No word on when it will be released, but the support page does mention that it is “only available on controllers released after June 2015,” hinting that it will probably be launched at E3 2015 next month.
