Windows 10 Upgrade Prompts Appear For Windows 7/8 Users

We know how eager Microsoft is to get Windows 10 into the hands of as many users as possible, and recently it seems that they have started to prompt Windows 7/8 users about the potential to upgrade to Windows 10, giving us a glimpse as to how the upgrade process might work.

The screenshots were initially posted on Reddit (via VentureBeat) in which users were asked to “reserve” their free copy of Windows 10. The prompt also points out how this free upgrade will be a limited time offer which seems to be in line with an earlier report where if users don’t claim the free upgrade within a year, the offer will be rescinded and they will have to pay for the upgrade.

Newegg recently listed the price of Windows 10 Professional on its website where it is priced at $150. Once users reserve their free copy, they will be notified later on when the update is ready for download, and once that’s done they’ll be good to go. At the moment there’s still no official word on when Windows 10 will be released.

Last we heard it was slated for a late July release although recently we have been given a more specific date in the form of the 29th of July. Whether or not this is true remains to be seen but we’ll be looking forward to it. In the meantime if you haven’t received your prompt yet, you should soon as presumably Microsoft is rolling out in phases and location.
