Soon after T-Mobile announced its program for early device upgrades, the other major carriers in the country came out with similar plans. Verizon Edge was launched back in 2013 and while it was a bit different from what T-Mobile offered, it was essentially meant to make it easier for people who wanted to upgrade their devices without having to wait for two years for their contracts to end. The company has announced a major change to the Edge program, one that will make it even easier for Big Red customers on Edge to upgrade their devices.
Prior to this change, those who subscribed to Verizon Edge had to wait for 30 days after signing up to upgrade their device. Once the time limit was reached customers had to pay off 75% of the device value and trade it in for a new one.
Starting May 31st, Verizon Edge customers can upgrade their device any time they want as long as their prior Edge device has been paid for in full, so the 30 day time limit after signing up has been removed.
Since they don’t have to trade in their device, Edge customers can keep it with them and get a new one after they’ve paid it off. They don’t have to give it back to Verizon and can instead turn to the multitude of online resources to sell it.
The Verizon Edge program covers basic phones, tablets and all postpaid smartphones available from Big Red.
