Now presumably many countries have divisions which attempts to protect the nation from cyber attacks, but not all of them are as well-staffed as the US which boards over 6,000 people at the Pentagon who are working to fight off cyber attacks. In fact over in Japan, the country’s cyber defense unit only has 90 members, which is why both Japan and the US have entered into a new military partnership in which the US will help defend Japan against any cyber attacks again its military and critical systems.
In a statement released by the US-Japan Cyber Defense Policy Working Group that was established in 2013, “We note a growing level of sophistication among malicious cyber actors, including non-state and state-sponsored actors.” This was followed by a statement issued by Japan’s defense ministry in which they pledged to “contribute to join efforts for addressing various cyber threats, including those against Japanese critical infrastructure and services utilized by the Japan Self-Defense Forces and U.S. Forces.”
Unsurprisingly some of Japan’s neighbors aren’t too thrilled about the deepened alliance, China being one of them in which the country’s defense ministry has expressed concern about how this new partnership could potentially increase the tension over internet security.
