The last time we heard or saw anything from the BioShock franchise was BioShock Infinite: Burial at Sea Part 2 which was released in the earlier part of 2014. Considering that the development studio behind the game, Irrational Games, has shut down, what will become of the series?
While it does seem to be in a bit of a flux at the moment, fans of the franchise can rest assured knowing that the game still has a future. This was revealed at the Technology, Media, & Telecom Conference in New York where Take-Two Interactive’s CEO Strauss Zelnick reassured fans about the future of BioShock.
Zelnick was quoted as saying, “It’s a really important intellectual property for the company. And while I don’t have any announcements to make, yes, it’s a really important franchise for us.” So as we can see, Zelnick is still considering BioShock to be one of the company’s more important franchises meaning that it won’t be going away anytime soon.
However it could also mean that it might be a while before we see/hear anything new about it. Zelnick had previously stated, “I think there’s a lot of upside in that franchise. It hasn’t necessarily been realized yet.” In the meantime now that Irrational Games has shut down, 2K Marin is expected to develop titles in the franchise moving forward.
