Sony hasn’t been the fastest of OEMs to release the much awaited Lollipop update for its devices, particularly models that are over a year old, and couple that with delays that software updates go through at mobile carriers and you have end users waiting for months on end for an update. This is why you’ll see T-Mobile Xperia Z1s users rejoicing today because the carrier has finally released Lollipop for this device.
Google launched Android 5.0 Lollipop late last year and the first devices to receive it were the company’s own Nexus line of smartphones and tablets.
Some third party OEMs were quick enough to roll out the update at least for a select few devices, just to get the ball rolling, but still many older devices remain which do support the update but haven’t received it yet.
T-Mobile Xperia Z1s users have been stuck with KitKat for a long, long time and they will no doubt be happy to see that the new software is finally available for their handset.
Today’s Lollipop update version 14.5.B.0.236 is only for the T-Mobile Xperia Z1s (C6916) and it’s rolling out over-the-air, users should expect to see an update notification pop on their device real soon. The update is likely going to come in north of 1GB.
