The real-time Skype Translator has been in a closed preview state for a few months now, the idea behind this service is to break down language barriers and make it more easier for people to connect with friends and family. It can be used to translate English, Italian, Spanish and Mandarin in real time as you talk with the other person on Skype either on a video or voice call. Even though it’s still in the preview state, Microsoft today removed the sign-up requirement and is now allowing anyone to take Skype Translator for a spin.
Starting today anyone can download the Skype Translator preview app from the Windows Store on a Windows 81. machine or a PC or tablet that’s running a preview build of Windows 10. Since there’s no longer a sign-up requirement the app can be immediately used right after the download finishes.
Aside from support for the aforementioned four spoken languages, Skype Translator preview also has support for 50 instant messaging languages. Users can write text in their language and the recipient will receive it in their language.
The end goal with Skype Translator is to provide more than 300 million connected Skype users the ability to conversate naturally with people even if they don’t share a common language, you have to admit, it’s pretty useful.
