This is why it doesn’t come as a complete surprise to learn that Samsung’s Media Solutions Center America, the arm responsible for Milk Music and Milk Video, are laying off their employees. This is according to a report from Variety who claims that as many as 15% of the company’s employees being laid off.
When asked to comment on the rumor, a Samsung spokesperson instead responded by issuing a statement that reads, “What we can tell you is that Samsung remains committed to delivering engaging, connected entertainment experiences through its Milk platform, and we continue to expand our library of music, video and virtual reality.”
This doesn’t really answer the question about the layoffs, but it does suggest that the platform isn’t doing as well as they should. Like we said the competition in the music streaming industry is pretty fierce at the moment and with Apple Music rumored for a launch at WWDC, even we have to wonder if Apple has what it takes to differentiate themselves from juggernauts like Spotify.
