The Pebble Time smartwatch has begun shipping today but it should be noted that these shipments are only to its backers. For those who are interested in the smartwatch but did not back its Kickstarter campaign, you guys will be in for a wait. The company has recently announced on its blog that they will begin taking new pre-orders for the watch starting 22nd of June.
Presumably this long wait is so that the company can get all of its shipments out to those who backed the device during its Kickstarter campaign, as well as to address any potential issues that might crop up along the way. However once the dust settles, those who are interested in the device will be able to pre-order it on Pebble’s website.
The company has also launched a reminder tool on its page in which users can leave their email address and be notified once the pre-orders are live. It is unclear as to how the Pebble Time will fare compared to its predecessor. The smartwatch now packs a color display and has a battery life that is noticeably longer than other smartwatches out there.
However if the reports are to be believed, it is having a hard time against the competition like the Apple Watch due to Apple’s branding and customer loyalty. Perhaps once the device has been released and reviews start coming in that things will perk up for the company who has been a Kickstarter darling on more than one occasion.
