The Pebble Time was launched early this year and just like its predecessor, it was crowdfunded on Kickstarter where it managed to raise a whopping $20 million in the process. Now the good news is that if you were one of the project’s backers, you will be pleased to learn that in an update on the Kickstarter page, the company has announced that mass production has begun.
It is expected to kick off later this week and for those who placed their orders, you can expect the device to begin making its way to you in the second half of the month. Mass production is actually a bit late as it was expected to begin last week, but we suppose better late than never, right? As for those who might have placed their orders a bit later, you guys can expect your watch in June.
For those who are hearing about the Pebble Time for the first time, it’s basically the successor to the original Pebble which was one of the first smartwatches on the scene, at least way before the folks at Samsung, LG, ASUS, and Apple got into it. The Pebble Time will feature a color e-ink display which is an upgrade over its predecessor which had a monochrome display.
It will be compatible with a myriad of apps available on iOS and Android devices and there will be a new sports app that will cover professional and NCAA sports, with the scores and schedules being pushed to your Pebble Time’s timeline. It will also come with a microphone which is a new hardware feature over its predecessor.
