As some of you guys are probably aware, the NVIDIA SHIELD Android TV comes with a rather measly 16GB of storage. If you’re looking to fill it up with games and movies, that 16GB is going to go down really fast, which is why it is understandable that some of you guys were a little excited at the possibility of the device getting a 500GB upgrade.
Well the good news is that it will, at least according to an NVIDIA employee who goes by the handle ManuelG. It seems that ManuelG has been posting on NVIDIA’s forums in which he more or less confirmed that the 500GB NVIDIA SHIELD Pro device is the real deal and that it is on track for a May release.
According to ManuelG, “It is still on track for May release as originally planned. I wish I could share more information but you’ll have all your questions answered soon.” Given that we’re already in May it means that the device is expected to be released later this month. The folks at Android Police are speculating that its May launch could also have some kind of tie-in with Google I/O which takes place next week.
In terms of pricing it is unclear as to how much it will cost. Previously it was listed at being $100 more than the SHIELD Android TV which is priced at $199, but since it can’t be confirmed yet, we guess we’ll just have to wait for its official release for the details.
