Now the question is when can we start seeing OEMs incorporate Sense ID into their products? The good news is that we won’t have to wait too long as Japanese carrier NTT DOCOMO has recently announced that they will be deploying Qualcomm’s Sense ID into phones that will be released on its network, which at the moment includes brands such as Sharp and Fujitsu.
This rollout will begin 28th of May so new phones from Sharp and Fujitsu on the carrier’s network should start sporting the fingerprint technology. The carrier is also hoping to expand beyond these brands and are looking to add Sense ID to more of its products in the later part of the year.
According to the carrier’s Managing Director and SVP of Product Development, Seiji Maruyama, “By collaborating with Qualcomm Technologies on the deployment of the Snapdragon Sense ID biometrics platform, our customers can now unlock their phones without having to key in a pincode, and can make mobile payments with a quick glance.”
