However over in India, the makers of an Indian movie titled “Piku” have managed to obtain a piracy blackout in which a variety of websites will be blocked from being accessed in the country. The moviemakers are hoping that with the blackout, the fallout from any piracy would ultimately be reduced.
Some of the websites that are included in the blackout are Vimeo, The Pirate Bay, Torrentz.eu, and a misspelled version of KickassTorrents (spelt Kickasstoreents). The owners of these websites are restrained from making available copies of the movie should they ever make their way online, not to mention India’s largest ISPs are also expected to block access to these websites.
Oddly enough Vimeo was listed as one of the offending websites. The website has rarely had any issue with copyright infringement and has largely played home to indie filmmakers looking to show off their stuff. That being said, pirates will be pirates at the end of the day and we reckon a legal court order will do little to prevent that, but it is a good effort nonetheless.
