A report from last month revealed that Nokia was reportedly interested in selling off its HERE Maps division. So far we have heard rumors that a variety of companies are interested in the technology, ranging from your usual tech giants such as Apple and Google, to German carmakers, and even companies such as Uber who might find the technology beneficial.
That being said it seems that we can now add Microsoft to that list. This is according to a recent report from Bloomberg which revealed that Microsoft is apparently interested in Nokia’s HERE Maps technology as well. However instead of buying the company outright, Microsoft is said to be more interested as a minority shareholder. Microsoft’s reported interest in the company is intriguing as it was only last year that the sale of Nokia’s cellphone division to Microsoft was officially completed.
In the meantime the report also adds that other companies such as China’s Baidu are also reportedly interested in acquiring Nokia’s HERE Maps. It certainly sounds like this is heating up to be quite a hotly contested piece of technology but who gets to walk away with it is still pretty much up in the air, but hopefully it won’t be too long until we have a clear answer.
