For a while it seemed like the Nintendo Wii U console was doomed for failure. Developers refused to develop for it, ultimately resulting in some AAA titles that other console gamers got to enjoy except for Wii U owners. However with the release of titles such as Mario Kart 8, things started to look up for Nintendo.
In fact it looks like the game has ended up being the best-selling title for the company in recent times. According to Nintendo’s recent financial results, it was revealed that Mario Kart 8 has managed to sell a little over 5 million copies in its lifetime. To be specific, the game has managed to sell a whopping 5.11 million copies to date.
Last we heard, the title managed to sell 1.2 million copies which was almost a year ago, so for Nintendo to increase that number by close to five times in less than a year is mighty impressive. This seems to have proven Nintendo right as previously the company was banking on the title to do well and help increase Wii U sale which it did. The title even managed to beat out its predecessor in terms of sales at launch.
Recently Nintendo has added a new 200cc mode to the game which results in faster gameplay, adding a new challenge for gamers who might have otherwise mastered the game.
