IWC Connect Is Not Your Conventional Smartwatch

Smartwatches are the new “in” gadgets these days which is why almost every other tech OEM seems to be coming out with one of their own. This trend has also put pressure on the centuries old Swiss watch industry that has led the world in mechanical watchmaking. Several major Swiss watchmakers have entered the fray and luxury brand IWC is jumping in as well, though the IWC Connect is far from a conventional smartwatch.

Instead of making a standalone smartwatch IWC has created a secondary device which can be attached to the watch’s strap. This device, called IWC Connect, adds features like network connectivity and fitness tracking all while preserving the sanctity of the mechanical watch.

IWC has now made it entirely clear precisely which features IWC Connect will bring, it will be paired with a companion app though through which users will control the features.

The company has not yet revealed detailed information about the IWC Connect so we may have to wait for a few months before we get to know how much this device costs, when it will arrive and what exactly it’s capable of doing.

Relatively affordable Swiss watchmaker Frederique Constant has already launched traditional watches with built-in fitness tracking while Montblanc has introduced an e-strap. Tag Heuer is making a full-fledged smartwatch in collaboration with Intel and Google.
