There are many ways one is able to find and discover new content online. You can subscribe to RSS feeds, or rely on apps and services like Flipboard to help discover new content, or you could also use HTC’s BlinkFeed service if you have a HTC device. Now HTC’s BlinkFeed is ad-free but it looks like the company could be thinking about monetizing it.
This is according to a recent post by @upleaks who posted the image above. Apparently this is shows how HTC plans on monetizing the service, which as you can see will rely on sponsored apps as well as promotions to help drive sales. We suppose monetizing a service that HTC users already have on their phones seems like a good idea.
However it could backfire as one of the features of BlinkFeed is to allow users to choose what they want or don’t want to see, so by inserting ads it could end up alienating some users who might choose not to use BlinkFeed at all. That being said there’s no confirmation if this will indeed be happening as the image and information could be inaccurate for all we know.
In any case what do you guys think? If HTC were to monetize BlinkFeed through ads and sponsored deals, would you continue to use it? Or would you turn to a third-party service instead?
