Galaxy S6 Reportedly Shipping With Two Different Camera Sensors

It wasn’t too long ago that DxOMark gave the Samsung Galaxy S6 high praise for its camera, and rightfully so. If you have picked up a Galaxy S6 or S6 Edge for yourself and tried its camera, you what we are talking about as the handset probably has the best camera in the market today. However interestingly enough, it has been recently discovered that Samsung has been using different camera sensors in their flagship handset.

Previously it was reported that the Galaxy S6 used Sony’s IMX240 camera sensor, however according to recent user reports, it turns out that it’s actually a mix of Sony and Samsung’s own camera sensors, meaning that there is a chance that your phone’s camera sensor might be different from the one used by the guy sitting next to you.

It is unclear as to why Samsung has decided to use both sensors and it also seems that the handsets are chosen at random, so it’s not like a particular region has the Sony sensor while another has the Samsung sensor. It also seems to indicate that Samsung thinks the sensors are interchangeable.

Is this good or bad news for users? Neither. If Samsung thinks that both sensors are interchangeable, it means that the difference in image quality are most probably on par with each other, or that the differences are so minor that it might not be noticeable to the average user. In any case it shouldn’t really affect your camera at the end of the day, hopefully.
