Multiple reports have come in over the past couple of hours that AT&T is rolling out a new software update for the Galaxy S6. It’s rolling out of the blue since the carrier wasn’t expected to release an update for this handset, which was only recently bumped up to Android 5.0.2. It’s unclear at this point in time exactly what purpose this software update serves.
As previously mentioned, AT&T recently released the Android 5.0.2 Lollipop update for this handset, so it was surprising for users when they started receiving the latest update today. Reports also suggest that this update is being sent out for the Galaxy S6 Edge as well.
AT&T has not yet provided a changelog so it is not known what this update brings. The carrier usually updates the support page for the device to reflect the changes that an update brings but so far that hasn’t been done as well.
According to reports the update is 237MB in size and doesn’t make any noticeable changes. If I was to speculate, perhaps it brings a few software tweaks related to safety and stability.
If there were any major changes, users who have already updated their devices would surely have come to know about it.
