Whenever a new major software update is released the focus is almost always on the high-end devices, so it didn’t surprise anyone when many of Samsung’s high-end devices were among the first to be updated to Lollipop. The company then turned its attention towards some of its mid-range handsets and now it’s bringing Lollipop to devices a tier below, the low-end foot soldiers that capture critical market share for the company in emerging markets.
Samsung today released the Galaxy Core Prime Lollipop update, it’s among the very first of the company’s low-end devices to receive Android 5.0.
Currently the update has only been released for the Galaxy Core Prime (SM-G360F) in Poland but that’s also an indication that this update will soon be rolled out across more markets.
Folks in the U.S. should take note too since Verizon did release its variant of the Galaxy Core Prime last year and this confirms that Big Red’s variant will also be getting the highly anticipated Lollipop update.
It’s encouraging to see Samsung bring Lollipop to low-end devices but I can’t imagine that this sits well with those who have been seeing the back and forth with regards to Lollipop for Galaxy Note 2.
From what the situation appears right now it seems that Samsung will only release Lollipop for the Galaxy Note 2 in selected markets.
