First-Gen Moto G Gets Lollipop

Motorola was one of the few OEMs that were quick to release the Lollipop update at least for recent models soon after Google pushed out the new software late last year. Folks who own the original Moto G have had to wait for a considerable amount of time though. The handset is nearly two years old now but still supports Lollipop. Today Motorola has finally started rolling out Lollipop for the first-gen Moto G.

Motorola first released its budget focused Moto G handset in 2013. It soon became popular as it provided decent specifications at a relatively cheap price with a near vanilla Android experience.

The company later followed up with a successor which proved to be equally successful, if not more. That particular handset has already received the Lollipop update.

First-gen Moto G owners will start to notice update notifications on their handset today. Once downloaded their device will be running Android 5.0.2.

It’ll include everything that we have come to expect from Lollipop such as the Material Design user interface, a plethora of new features as well as overall performance improvements.

Since this is a major update is going to be pretty heft, around 1GB, so Moto G owners should definitely hook up to a decent Wi-Fi connect prior to downloading the update file on their smartphones.
