Chrome Extension Reveals Source Of FB Messages

fb-stalkDespite the fact that Facebook’s mobile Messenger will inform you specifically that it will keep track of your location data right from the get go, as you install the app for the first time – all the way to every single moment you decide to kick off a new conversation, many people fail to let it sink in that this happens all too often – and accurately, too. In other words, the app will ping where you are at the moment each time a text is sent, and with a new Chrome extension, one will be able to check out just where one’s contacts have been messaging you from, and this is done without them knowing any better, or even giving the permission for it to happen.

Also known as the “Marauder’s Map” (no doubt gaining inspiration from the Harry Potter series), this particular extension will make full use of the GPS data that remains embedded in individual Messenger messages, hence opening up the door to locate and track the person who sent that message. Of course, this is far from being a real-time tracking mechanism, as all that the extension does is to compile the embedded data into a map that is easily understandable, but the fact remains that folks whom you have talked to via FB Messenger will be able to know where you have been.
