Looks like Marvel is leaving no stone unturned for Avengers: Infinity War Part I and Part 2. According to a report by Variety, the studio is filming both the movies exclusively on IMAX cameras. It will be the first time in the history of cinema when two movies are being shot entirely for IMAX screens. It also points out that the large motion picture format (which stands for Image MAXimum) is slowly and steadily making its way into the large format movie arena.
Marvel has already promised Captain America: Civil War to be the biggest movie for the year 2016, and Interestingly, the upcoming dual-parter Avengers, is also written and directed by the crew behind Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The upcoming installations of Avengers are being carefully directed to fit the large screen format.
IMAX CEO Greg Foster, said,”The Russos are going to spend the next 15 months or so designing the making of the Avengers films with these cameras in mind. They’re not looking at this a week before they start filming or only focusing on an important section of the film. This is something that’s never happened before,” he said.
Until now, directors such as, Christopher Nolan, have only shot few sequences in the IMAX format in their movies. Nolan’s Interstellar featured an hour footage shot exclusively on IMAX cameras. Also, Captain America: Civil War will also feature a 15-minute scene that will be shot via brand new 2D cameras designed and developed by IMAX and Arri (a movie equipment company).
This latest move by Marvel is just another step in the battle of wooing audiences to their movies. IMAX already has a brand image in the minds of cinema goers and with its big-screen technology and ultimate sound, it gets an edge over other mediums. Other competitors like, Dolby have also recently collaborated with AMC to combine its laser-powered Dolby Cinema technology with premium AMC screens.
With movies getting bigger and better, there seems to be a new spot for latest tech ecosystems to provide audiences with ultimate cinematic experience.
