There is already a lot of hype surrounding Apple’s upcoming music streaming service which will couple together technology from Beats Music with rebranding possibly under the iTunes umbrella. It’s believed that unlike Spotify, Apple is not going to offer a free ad-supported streaming tier and it may even be pushing music labels to clamp down on services that offer such tiers. A new report suggests that to promote its new streaming service Apple might offer users free music just to get them hooked.
Nothing has obviously been officially confirmed but re/code’s sources claim that Apple may offer new users a free trial period of one to three months during which they will be able to access the entire library and all of the features for no charge.
After the free trial ends users will be required to pay or they will be locked out of the service. Multiple reports have suggested that to make its service competitive Apple is targeting a subscription price point of under $10 per month.
The report also claims that a SoundCloud type service might also be launched by Apple which will let artists upload free music for non-subscribers.
Apple may also refresh iTunes Radio, which is a free service, to offer users playlists curated by real music specialists quite similar to the ones that Beats Music has to create its playlists.
Apple is expected to announce the new music streaming service at the Worldwide Developers Conference 2015 in San Francisco next month.
