Motorola has finally begun the Android 5.1 Lollipop soak-test on its flagship smartphone, Moto X (2 Gen), in Brazil. This makes Nexus 9 not the only device which will receive the 5.1 update today. It will not take much longer for other variants to get the update too.
The update (version 23.11.14) will be reaching other carrier versions too, but until now Motorola has not provided any detail regarding it. However, the change logs posted by the company yesterday listed locked & unlocked AR&T versions of the Moto X.
This latest Android 5.1 Lollipop firmware update is pretty critical for the Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system series because it carries fixes for the bugs, such as the Bluetooth connectivity, Wi-Fi tethering issue, Chrome crash, CPU wake-locks (that resulted in faster battery drain), Automatic erase of SMSs and many more.
Motorola has been especially talking about the new chop-chop Moto Actions gesture ( swing the phone twice to activate the flash light) that comes in this update. Apart from these, an array of tweaks and fixes that will accompany the Android 5.1 builds.
Wait for the update to hit you soon or otherwise you can also check it manually by going to Settings > About Phone > System Updates > Download. After the download is complete, the device will restart and get upgraded to the 5.1 firmware.
The new update will be released to a few select Moto X device users, who have enrolled in the Moto device owners’ feedback network platform.
