Prior to this, Amazon Prime offered customers free two-day delivery and perhaps in a bid to make it more enticing, it now has free same-day delivery. There is a catch and that is not all orders will be eligible for this. As it stands, about 1 million of Amazon’s products are available for the service which is a fraction of the 20 million or so items being sold by the company.
Orders will also have to be over $35 and these orders will need to be placed before noon in order to qualify for the free same-day delivery. Also not the entire US will be covered by this as only 14 metro areas will be getting it, but we suppose that’s still pretty good for now. According to Amazon Prime’s VP Chris Rupp, “We can get items closer to customers, get more items in stock and be able to deliver as quickly as possible.”
This offer by Amazon Prime is most likely in response to companies such as Google and Walmart, both of whom have started to trial and offer up same-day delivery services as well, so now it’s really a matter of who will be able to come up on top now that all services offer the same feature.
