This Friday Apple started taking pre-orders for its first smartwatch. The Apple Watch won’t be released until later this month but the company has already managed to sell out of pre-order stock. Shipping estimates have now slipped by as much as a few months, though the oft-reported supply issues might have something to do with that as well. Apple CEO Tim Cook visited the Palo Alto Apple Store and while speaking to the media, classified Apple Watch orders as “great.”
The Palo Alto store has played host to Apple executives in the past when new products are launched so media was present at the store’s opening when Tim Cook came around.
Apple Watch units will not arrive at customers’ doors before April 24th but the company is allowing people to head to its stores and try out the new product. That’s why many people visited Apple Stores on Friday to get a hands-on experience of the Apple Watch.
Speaking to CNBC, Apple CEO Tim Cook said that “orders are great,” and that the entire Apple Watch launch has been “incredible.” Apple is releasing its first smartwatch in nine markets initially.
Despite that, Apple Stores around the globe have the Apple Watch units in-store for people who want to try them out. Appointment reservations are encouraged, though they’re not mandatory.
