Recent data has shown that the purchase vinyl records is on the rise, but as much as we would love to start collecting vinyl, not every artist, song, or album is available in that format which is where the Universal Record comes into play. Basically this is a turntable that plays a vinyl record which has a Bluetooth audio receiver and acoustic transducer hidden in it.
What this means is that users will basically be able to broadcast any song they want from their smartphone, tablet, or computer onto it. As its creator Jesse England points out, users need not be limited to just smart devices as one can always attach a Bluetooth encoder to other audio devices like a discman or Walkman and achieve the same effect. It’s a pretty clever idea and if you have a turntable lying around at home, this could be one way to make use of it.
However since we can’t actually hear the device ourselves, we can’t say for sure if its audio quality will be on par with actual vinyl records. Not to mention there are other factors to take into consideration such as the quality of the audio file that you’re transmitting and the kind of speakers and amplifiers that you are using.
That being said, there’s no word on whether England plans on releasing the Universal Record as an actual product that you can buy, but perhaps with enough interest in it, maybe he might change his mind. In the meantime you can check out the Universal Record in action in the video above.
