Tesla Unveils Model S 70D With All-Wheel Drive

Tesla has made a new addition to its Model S lineup. The Model S 70D will replace the Model S 60 and it brings all-wheel drive standard in the base model instead of rear-wheel drive only. Model S cars are pricey and the S 70D is no different. It starts at $76,070 before incentives and is actually $5,000 more than the outgoing model. Access to the company’s Supercharger network and Autopilot hardware is also included as standard in this vehicle.

To make all-wheel drive standard in the S 70D Tesla has added a second electric motor to drive the front wheels. This gives the car a combined BHP of 329 as it also replaces the 60 kWh battery of the outgoing model with a 70 kWh battery.

According to the company the Tesla Model S 70D is capable of going from naught to sixty in 5.2 seconds and will achieve a top speed of 140 miles per hour. Under normal driving conditions the car is expected to provide a range of up to 240 miles.

Speaking to Reuters, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said that while the new model has received a price increase it also signifies a “huge value increase.” That’s because the model has all-wheel drive and more range, that’s what customers were asking for, and Tesla has delivered.

If you don’t feel like spending more than $70,000 on an all electric car don’t worry, Tesla is also working on a cheaper model, it will cost around $30,000. However the Model 3 is going to take a couple of years to hit the streets.
