This follows a tweet from the 30th of March in which Tesla promised that they had a new major product line they were planning on announcing on the 30th of April, and with this email sent by the company’s head of investor relations, Jeffrey Evanson, it pretty much confirms what will be announced at the company’s upcoming event. In response to the email, a Tesla spokeswoman said that more information will be shared next week without actually confirming the product’s launch.
According to the company’s CEO’s comments made back in February, “We are trying to figure out what would be a cool stationary (battery) pack. Some will be like the Model S pack: something flat, 5 inches off the wall, wall mounted, with a beautiful cover, an integrated bi-directional inverter, and plug and play.”
Tesla won’t be the first company to attempt such a concept. Previously companies such as Toyota and Nissan have explored the idea of using electric car batteries to power the home, so it remains to be seen if Tesla’s solution will be able to succeed and catch on where they couldn’t.
