According to the numbers, 11% of the teens surveyed said that they planned on purchasing the Apple Watch, with the main reason for getting the Apple Watch was due to style, followed by its design. It seems that the actual functionality of the watch played a secondary role in their decision. This is a drop from last year in which Munster’s research revealed that 16% of teens would buy the Apple Watch.
Munster notes, “We believe the lower purchase intent reflects a wait and see approach to the Watch as it seems unclear what will be the “killer app” for the Watch. We expect teens to be a good market for the Apple Watch given the popularity of the iPhone, but believe it will take time for influencers (celebrities) to make the watch popular among teens.”
That being said despite teens reportedly not being as interested in the Apple Watch, the device appears to be doing pretty well in terms of pre-orders. Last we heard the Apple Watch had managed to snag 1 million pre-orders with Apple’s CEO Tim Cook claiming that the pre-orders have been “great”, not to mention there have been enough pre-orders to push the estimated shipping times to June.
