Snapchat Updates Its Best Friend List Using Emojis

Snapchat assumes that the people you tend to share photos and videos with the most are your best friends, or at least very good friends and previously used to lump them into a “best friends” list, showing you a list of people whom you frequently communicate with. However in the latest update to the app, the feature has since been canned.

In its place, Snapchat has replaced it with a new way of indicating who they think your best friends are which is done through the use of emojis. Basically instead of just a list that shows you your most frequently contacted friends, the app will now use emojis such as different smileys and hearts that will hopefully make it more obvious.

Now the new system is a tad complicated and we’re not sure why Snapchat decided to come up with such a convoluted system, but in case you were wondering how it works, Snapchat released the series of images above to help you understand it. Basically if you receive a snap from the person you message the most who is also your best friend, you will see a heart emoji.

However if you receive a message from someone who sends you the highest percentage of their snaps, you will see a side-eye smirk emoji, and if you receive a snap from someone who has your best friend as their best friend, you will get a grimace-like face, and so on. The updated system also hides the emojis from the public which might be great for those who’d rather not have others see who they are frequently communicating with.
