However it seems that despite what feels like an impossible task, Senator Dianne Feinstein wants the controversial The Anarchist Cookbook removed from the internet (via ArsTechnica). For those unfamiliar with the book, it’s basically a book that teaches users how to make explosives, phreaking devices, drugs, and more. It has been around since 1971 so like we said, wanting it removed would be close to impossible.
This follows the arrest of two women on Thursday who were accused of trying to build a bomb. According to Feinstein who wrote on her website, “I am particularly struck that the alleged bombers made use of online bombmaking guides like the Anarchist Cookbook and Inspire Magazine. These documents are not, in my view, protected by the First Amendment and should be removed from the Internet.”
That being said we can certainly understand her concerns and we should note this isn’t the first time Feinstein had spoken up about the book and other similar texts, but to have it completely removed from the internet? That would certainly be a monumental task.
