As if torrents and filesharing websites weren’t a thorn in the side of the movie industry, along comes Popcorn Times which is basically the equivalent of Netflix for pirates. Now the good news for iOS users is that if you’ve always wanted the ability to stream Popcorn Time on your mobile device, you’re in luck.
Now before you’re wondering how could Apple let an app like Popcorn Time into their stores, they’re not. Speaking to the folks at TorrentFreak, it seems that the developers have created a custom installer that allows users to add apps to their iOS devices not necessarily from the iTunes App Store without requiring a jailbreak.
Prior to this, Popcorn Time was available as an iOS download although users had to jailbreak their devices in order to do so. Given that there are some who are still having reservations about jailbreaking, it is understandable that you might pass up on the app, at least until now. The implications of this custom installer is huge as not only will it allow the installation of Popcorn Time without a jailbreak, but it could lead the way for other developers to offer app installations as well.
This means apps that might have been rejected by Apple could still find a new lease on life through this method. A link to the installer is expected to be posted tomorrow and can be found on Popcorn Time’s dedicated iOS page for those who are interested in checking it out.
