Pentax K-3 II With Pixel Shift Resolution Mode Announced

If you’re looking for a new camera and your phone isn’t cutting it, but you want something more than just a point and shoot, you might be interested to learn that Ricoh has recently announced the Pentax K-3 II semi-pro DSLR, with the key feature of the camera being its pixel shift resolution mode, making it the first Pentax camera to feature the technology.

According to Pentax’s description of the feature, “Pixel shift technology uses the camera’s in-body Shake Reduction mechanism to move the image sensor at single pixel increments, capture 4 separate images, which are subsequently combined into a single high definition image. Benefits include higher resolving power, reduced false color and improved overall image quality of non-moving subjects.”

As for the rest of the camera’s specs, the Pentax K-3 II will feature a 24MP APS-C sensor, a 27-point AF system, image stabilization, built-in GPS, a gyro-sensor-based panning detection, and automatic horizon correction. The only thing that seems to be missing is a built-in flash, meaning that photographers will have to get their own flash units.

The body of the Pentax K-3 II has also been designed to be both dustproof and water-resistant and has also been designed to take a bump or two. It is priced at $1,100 and is expected to be made available in the US come May 2015.
