Oculus Rift Demo Teaches Users How To Survive A Water Crash Landing

Stuck in metal tube flying hundreds of miles above ground, the last thing we’re sure many of us do not want to think of is what will happen if the plane crashes? Typically there are videos which shows passengers how to put on their life jacket or wear the oxygen mask, and while that’s all good, it doesn’t really prepare the passenger for what will happen if the plane really goes down.

However the University of Udine’s HCI Labs wants to prepare passengers for worst-case scenarios and have developed an Oculus Rift demo in which it simulates what could happen in the event that the plane crash lands into water. From there, the passenger will then need to follow the instructions if they wish to survive the crash. It’s a little morbid and given the immersiveness of the Oculus Rift, we can only imagine the experience to be a bit frightening.

It’s probably not a good idea to check out the demo in the video above if you’re already afraid of flying. However for those who own the Oculus Rift and wouldn’t mind taking the experience for a spin, you can hit up the Oculus website and download the demo. For the rest of us, here’s hoping that none of us will have to go through that experience!
