Mysterious Motorola “Smelt” Could Be The Moto 360’s Successor

moto-360-smartwatch-review-22It was just last year that Motorola’s Moto 360 smartwatch was launched, and assuming smartwatches are updated and refreshed on an annual basis, there is a chance we could be looking at its successor this year. In fact Lenovo’s CEO might have accidentally tweeted images of it before quickly deleting it.

That being said it certainly seems like Motorola could be working on a new wearable. The folks at Phandroid have recently received a tip from a popular app developer who noticed a Motorola-made Android Wear device pinging his Android developer console. The location of the ping came from Mundelein, a city which is actually not too far from Motorola’s HQ in Chicago, thus increasing suspicion and speculation that the device could be an upcoming wearable.

While the device’s name was not revealed, it had the codename “Smelt” and appeared to be running on Android 5.1. Its display was also found to have a resolution of 360×360 which is a slight increase over the Moto 360 which has a 320×290 display. Like we said its location and the fact that it is an Android Wear device has led us to believe that “Smelt” could be the Moto 360’s successor.

It’s anyone’s guess as to when Motorola will announce a new smartwatch, but we’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for more information regarding the device. In the meantime are there any new features or improvements you’d like to see Motorola make to the Moto 360?
