Nobody likes seeing games struggle with issues right after they’re released but this isn’t something that’s unusual. On the contrary it’s actually perfectly normal to see some issues pop up when a new game is released. Mortal Kombat X was released today and it appears that people who are installing it on a PC are facing a few problems, from what I gather Steam’s new download system is the culprit.
Multiple accounts of Mortal Kombat X being unstable and crashing repeatedly are available on social media and even Steam forums. It appears that the PC launch of this title hasn’t gone without its fair share of problems.
According to reports accessing any of the menu options instantly makes the game crash to the desktop. Some players get it to work in one-player mode but even then it’s not fully stable and can crash unexpectedly.
Many believe that this due to Steam’s new download system which initially downloads only 3GB to give players access to early parts of the campaign.
The remaining files are then split up in 23 packs which are downloaded in the background and installed once they’ve all been stored locally. Apparently this download doesn’t start on its own which basically leaves players with 3GB of files that are of no use at all.
Steam is using this download system for the first time, and even though similar systems work for console owners, it doesn’t appear to be working on the PC.
