There aren’t that many devices out there that are running Android 5.1. Google released this version of Lollipop just a couple of weeks back and so far it has mostly been released for Nexus devices. LG G Pad 8.3 Google Play Edition owners have something to look out for today though. Android 5.1 has been released for this tablet and it’s rolling out today.
Even though there’s hasn’t been a new Google Play Edition device in quite some time now these devices were preferred by people who didn’t mind paying upfront but wanted the luxury of swift software updates.
Whenever a new software update is released by Google it first lands on Nexus devices. Google Play Edition units follow closely in second place.
That’s the pattern that has been witnessed with Android 5.1 as well. OEMs like Samsung have reportedly not even begun developing Android 5.1 for their devices primarily because many of them are still in the process of getting Android 5.0.x out the door.
Some carriers like Motorola have chosen to skip Android 5.0.x for a few devices and jump them up straight to Android 5.1 Lollipop, which certainly seems like the right move.
Those who are already running Android 5.0 on the LG G Pad 8.3 Google Play Edition will only have a 200MB download that will take them up to Android 5.1. The new software has begun rolling out in stages for this tablet so it shouldn’t take too long to go live for all users.
